Description
Wanale Coffee was named after the prominent peak of the Mt. Elgon mountain range where this coffee was grown. It was grown by several coffee growers before being processed at The Coffee Yard. There the coffee is sorted, graded, processed and cupped to ensure consistency and quality in the cup. The coffee that is processed at The Coffee Yard is selected by Lead Growers who are trusted and experienced coffee growers working in communities. They selectively purchase high quality coffee from farmers in their community, and provide bonuses for the best quality, encouraging a focus on growing the best possible coffees.
The Coffee Yard was established by Norman Mukuru who has decades of experience in the coffee industry. His drying centre has secured a reputation for excellence. He is committed to transparency so all farmers are registered and their coffees traceable. He is also keen to ensure their coffees adhere to internationally recognised standards including the European Union Deforestation Regulation established to prevent deforestation in food production, and also the Rainforest Alliance Training. Farmers producing coffee for The Coffee Yard are trained in these standards.
