Coffee from small scale producers is often blended together based simply on location, or mixed in to larger commercial blends. Lima Coffee was founded in 2016 by Rony Lavan Guerrero and a number of other coffee producers in Jaen to help create blends based on quality instead. This allows the work of small scale producers who are quality focused to be appreciated, and also encourages other growers to focus on improving quality.

Rony set up a cooperative with membership based on cup quality. He knew of areas and producers in Cajamarca who have great quality and approached them to buy their best prepared coffees, with the aim of selling them as micro lots.

This coffee is a carefully selected blend of lots from various small holder producers in the El Diamante area of the San Ignacio province in Northern Peru. The beans were selected based on cup profile, with a pronounced acidity, notes of citrus fruits and lots of complexity that the region is known for.

The main variety grown in El Diamante is Caturra, with few producers planting anything else since rust isn’t a big problem yet, due to relatively new trees and the cool climate.
