We’re taking our first foray in to podcast advertising next week by sponsoring the Insect of the Week feature on the Roots and All podcast, with the first airing going out on Monday 16th March. If you’re not familiar with it Roots and All is a podcast about gardening with a strong focus on protecting nature. The Insect of the Week highlights a different insect selected by gardener and ecologist Benny Hawksbee, helping to spread knowledge of insects which desperately need our help.

We’ve chosen to sponsor this particular feature and podcast because, as much as we love coffee, nature is my true passion and one of the things that I love about having a small business is being able to work flexibly to spend as much time as I can outside either walking in local green spaces or in my own wildlife-friendly garden.

Insects are facing a crisis. Habitats are being destroyed by developments and so many green spaces that should support insect populations are being doused in pesticides that harm them. There can often be a bug-phobic “kill them with fire” mentality around insects in the UK which means that it can be difficult to build support to protect them. But when you get to know insects and you look at them up close, they are incredibly fascinating creatures. So we’re glad to support a feature that helps to raise awareness of all of the different insects that we have in this country and maybe slowly learn to embrace them in our gardens instead of panicking at the first sign of a nibbled leaf.

Please do go give it a listen where ever you get your podcasts, and whatever you do leave the pesticides on the shelf and off your garden.
