Making it funky

Some subscribers to our newsletter may remember we asked in August if you would like funkier coffees. We had quite a few replies and some customers talked to us during our deliveries which was all very helpful.

It’s fair to say that we’ve been a bit safer this year than in previous years because as we’ve grown we’ve unwittingly become more consistent and our choice of coffee has been safer. Feedback has told us people aren’t as safe as you think; the coffee where someone goes “ooh, that’s different…” doesn’t mean they dislike it (although that can happen), it just means either getting use to it or changing the brew. We rejected the idea of a signature blend early in our roasting journey so omitting these coffees or, as we have been doing, getting them in less often is counter to that idea.

In short, we’re going back to the way we chose coffee in the early days, but with a loose-ish formula. At least 25% of our new offering will include more exciting and funkier coffees defined as caffeinated and non-washed (ie natural, fermented, honey processing). Practically, this means that if you order a multipack at least one will be funky, or if you’re part of a year of coffee they’ll be a funky one every three months.

So not a change, we’re just writing down what you can expect from us. As always, we’re always open to comments either by emailing us coffee@roastinghouse.co.uk or visit our mastodon.
