Description
This coffee was produced by the newly established Arte y Pasión Cafetera which was established by several coffee growers in rural areas including Los Olivos, Altoguayabos, and San Nicolás in 2024. They decided to work together to overcome low prices and poor quality coffee in the region. Their goals are to produce high quality coffee, connect with domestic and international coffee markets, improve management processes and technology, train and empower coffee growers, and to reduce the environmental, social, and economic impacts on coffee producers.
This coffee is named Atunkaa which means sleep and dreams in the indigenous Wayuunaiki language. It was decaffeinated using the sugarcane method with ethyl acetate, a natural by-product of sugar cane processing. The ethyl acetate binds to caffeine, separating it from the coffee beans. This method is considered the best for preserving the coffee’s flavour.
