Atunkaa, Colombia sugarcane decaf
Price range: £12.50 through £40.00
Blackberry, fudge, butterscotch, praline and banana.
Description
Produced by a collective of small-holders in the Argelia municipality of Colombia. These small-scale growers have limited access to market so they work with Siruma Coffee, a specialty female-led exporter which was launched to support small family farmers in improving their coffee and accessing the export market.
The coffee was decaffeinated using the sugarcane decaffeination process in which green coffee beans are soaked in a water solution containing the natural compound ethyl acetate extracted from sugar cane. The ethyl acetate binds to the caffeine, removing it from the bean. The coffee beans are then steamed to remove any traces of ethyl acetate leaving behind coffee with all of the delicious taste of specialty coffee without the caffeine.
