Lala Salama decaf, Ethiopia
Price range: £13.00 through £45.00
Description
This coffee was grown in the Sidama region of Ethiopia, renowned for its high quality sweet and smooth tasting coffees. It was processed at the Alemu Adama wet and dry mill station in the Bensa Woreda of the Abay Teka district.
Sustainability and social welfare are key priorities for the station, with training provided on deforestation, protecting water sources, waste management, and labour practices. Support is provided to low-income households. They also provide health insurance, and contribute to the local community by funding road construction and enhancing spring water resources. They plan to invest further by replacing their current machinery with eco-friendly processing machines designed to minimise water and energy consumption.
This coffee was processed using the sparkling water decaffeination process in which the coffee beans are soaked in water saturated with CO2. This removes the caffeine gently, leaving behind the natural flavour and aroma compounds.
